For each individual hired for employment in the United States, all US employers are responsible for the completion and retention of a Form I9 including both citizens and noncitizens. The document information must be recorded and the employer must verify employment eligibility and identity documents presented by the employee. Click on the link below for a list of acceptable documents detailed under Special Instructions.

Filing with the (ICE) Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement is not required. However, the I9 Form must be kept by the employer for three years after the date of hire or for one year after termination of employment, whichever is later and must be available for inspection by authorized US Government officials such as the Department of Labor or ICE. There is no filing fee required.
